Bob 和 Sofia 下課後來到學校附近一間餐廳，正考慮午餐要吃些什麼…
Bob: Those noodles look nice.
Bob：那麵看起來不錯。
Sofia: Do they come with coriander?
Sofia：裡面有香菜嗎？
Bob: I don’t think so. Why? Don’t you like coriander?
Bob：我想應該沒有？怎麼了？你不喜歡香菜嗎？
Sofia: Yuck. Coriander is my nemesis. I’ve loathed it since the day I was born. Just looking at it makes me want to puke!
Sofia：很噁，香菜是我在世界上最大的仇敵。我打從娘胎起就痛恨它。我每次不小心聞到它就覺得想吐！
Bob: I think that’s a little over the top…
Bob：哈哈哈你誇張了啦…
Sofia: No, you don’t understand what it tastes like to me (shivering). See! Just the mere mention of it has given me goosebumps all over my arms.
Sofia：不，你不懂對我來說它吃起來像什麼。(顫抖) 你看！光提到它我手臂都起雞皮疙瘩了。
Bob: Fine, I’ll go ask them if the noodles contain coriander.
Bob：好吧，我去問店員麵裡面會不會放香菜。
小 V 可以擔保，Sofia 絕對沒有誇大其詞！香菜就是那麼恐怖！

coriander (n.) 香菜
拿好你的吃貨不踩雷筆記，「香菜」的中文叫 coriander /ˈkoriˌændɚ/，這個名稱普遍常用於英國或是歐洲各地，如果你今天是去到了美國，可以改用 cilantro /sɪˈlæntro/ 這個字，這樣別人更容易了解你的意思喔！
Bob: What is coriander to you?
Sofia: It’s the weed of the hell.
Bob：香菜對你來說是什麼？
Sofia：是地獄的雜草。
loathe (v.) 痛恨
loathe /ˈloð/ 的中文為「痛恨；厭恨」，近義詞為 hate，但是 loathe 憎恨強度更大。loathe 的後面可以接名詞，或是接動名詞 (V-ing)。
I love cooking but I loathe doing the dishes.
我熱愛煮菜，但我痛恨洗碗。Sally loathed the way her boyfriend ordered her to clean up the house.
Sally 厭惡他男友指示她去做家事。
goosebumps (n.) 雞皮疙瘩
goose bumps 的中文是「雞皮疙瘩」，其中 bump 就有「隆起物」的意思。goosebumps 是美式的說法，英式說法則是 goose flesh，直翻是「鵝皮」。「起雞皮疙瘩」可以用 get goosebumps 表示。
It’s normal to get goosebumps when you encounter a cold wind suddenly.
遇到冷風突襲會起雞皮疙瘩是正常的。
服務生上菜了，Bob 和 Sofia 邊吃邊聊。
Sofia: Isn’t there any food that you dislike?
Sofia：你就沒有什麼不喜歡的食物嗎？
Bob: Umm… I guess garlic is not my thing, but I’m okay with it in my food.
Bob：嗯…我想大蒜不是我的菜，不過如果食物裡有我是可以。
Sofia: That doesn’t count. Is there any food that disgusts you?
Sofia：那不算。有沒有其他食物會讓你反感的？
Bob: Cinnamon?
Bob：或許是肉桂吧。
Sofia: Really? That’s a surprise. I thought most people liked cinnamon.
Sofia：真假？你讓我好驚訝。我以為大多數人都喜歡肉桂。
Bob: Not me. What about spring onion?
Bob：我就不。那青蔥呢？
Sofia: Are you kidding me? I can’t get enough of spring onion.
Sofia：你在跟我開玩笑嗎？再多的青蔥我都覺得不夠。
肉桂真的也不是大家都喜歡，先來學學相關單字吧！
dislike (v.) 不喜歡
dislike 意指「不喜歡」，這個字由含否定意味的字首 dis- 加上 like (喜歡) 所組成。
I dislike fish, so I rarely eat it.
我不喜歡魚，所以很少吃。
not my thing 不是我的菜
本文中，not my thing 並不是指「不是我的東西」，這裡的 thing 有很多種意思，可以解釋為「愛好；嗜好；專長」，當聽見某人說某件事情 is not my thing，多半表示那個人「對那件事物不太喜歡或是不太擅長」。而在本文中，如果將 not my thing 翻成「不是我的菜」就很有趣了，因為文中主角正是在討論菜！
Math is really not my thing. I can barely do simple addition.
數學真的不是我擅長的。我連加法都不太會。
disgust (v.) 使反感
disgust 為動詞，意思是「使反感；使厭惡」，disgusting 則是形容詞，意思是「令人感到噁心的；令人反感的」。
People who litter disgust me.
亂丟垃圾的人真的很討厭。The wet hair on the floor is disgusting!
地上濕濕的頭髮看起來好噁心！
點菜前真的要多確認裡面沒有自己不吃的食物，不然就會很悲劇啊！
