涼爽的假日，爸媽帶著 7 歲的 Scott 去體驗露營，下午抵達露營區後，他們準備開始搭帳篷。
(At the campsite)
(在露營區)Dad: Right, let’s pitch the tent. Scoot over Scott. We have to lay down the groundsheet and unroll the tent. Can you help me?
爸爸：好，我們先搭帳篷吧。Scoot 過來一下，我們現在要先鋪地布、再把帳篷攤開，你可以幫我嗎？Scoot: Yes! (lays the groundsheet and unrolls the tent) Finished! What’s the next step?
Scoot：好！(鋪地步接著攤開帳篷) 我完成了！下一步要做什麼？Dad: Do you see those tent poles? They’ll form a frame that will hold up the tent. Don’t worry, they’re easy enough to assemble.
爸爸：你有看到那些營柱嗎？營柱是帳篷的骨架，我們要把它們接起來。Scott: And then thread the poles through these sleeves?
Scott：我們接下來要把營柱穿過這些布管嗎？Dad: Smart boy! Then we’ll put the tent up. Hey dear, can you give me a hand?
爸爸：你真聰明！再來我們要把帳篷撐起來。親愛的，你可以幫忙一下嗎？Mom: Wait a second! I’m hanging up the hammock.
媽媽：等一下！我在掛吊床。Dad: Alright! Scott, our last step is to hammer the pegs into the ground to secure our tent, otherwise it might blow away.
爸爸：好哦！Scott 我們最後一步要將營釘打進土裡來固定我們的帳篷，不然它會被吹走。Scott: Haha, that would crazy! Sounds kinda fun!
Scott：哈哈哈，聽起來好瘋狂！真好玩！Dad: No, it wouldn’t be fun at all. Go and get my hammer from the toolbox.
爸爸：不，一點都不好玩。去工具箱裡面找鐵鎚給我吧。

pitch a tent (phr.) 搭帳篷
pitch 這個動詞有「投；扔」的意思，除此之外它也可以指「搭 (帳篷)」。另外還可以用 set up a tent 或 put up a tent 來表示相同意思。
Flat ground is the best place to pitch a tent.
平坦的地面是搭帳篷的絕佳地點。
tent pole (n.) 營柱 / sleeve (n.) 布管 / peg (n.) 營釘
pole 的意思是「杆子；柱子」，tent pole 就是帳篷的「營柱」，是將帳篷支撐起來的主要架構。sleeve 原本有「袖子」的意思，用在帳篷上就是指讓營柱穿過去的「布管」。而 peg 意為「(掛東西的) 鉤子」和「(固定用的) 釘；樁」，在對話中指「營釘」。
Our camping trip was totally ruined! Our tent poles snapped and the sleeves ripped.
這次的露營毀了！我們的營柱斷了、布管也裂開了。
The Morris family ended up having to chase their tent around the campsite because they forgot to secure it with pegs.
Morris 一家人追著他們的帳篷跑，因為它們忘了用營釘栓住帳篷。
hammock (n.) 吊床
吊床的英文可不是 hang bed，而是叫做 hammock /ˈhæmək/。
He slept in the hammock, enjoying the tranquil silence of the forest.
他睡在吊床上，享受著森林靜謐的氛圍。
終於搭好帳篷後，爸爸準備開始升營火，媽媽也開始準備睡袋和晚餐要用的食材。
Mom: Scott! Come and help me to move the folding table and sleeping bags.
媽媽：Scott！過來幫忙搬摺疊桌跟睡袋。Scott: Okay! Where’s Dad?
Scott：好！爸爸呢？Mom: He’s building a campfire.
媽媽：爸爸在生營火唷。Scott: Will he use a spindle and friction to start it like a caveman?!
Scott：所以爸爸要跟穴居人一樣鑽木取火嘛！Mom: Of course not! Dad will use tinder and a lighter to start a fire.
媽媽：當然不是啦！爸爸會用火種跟打火機來生火。Dad: Dear, the campfire is ready. We can set up the campfire tripod and the Dutch oven.
爸爸：親愛的，營火生好了，我們可以架三腳架跟鑄鐵鍋了。Scott: What’s for dinner tonight?
Scott：今天晚上吃什麼？Mom: Risotto, and pumpkin soup.
媽媽：燉飯跟南瓜濃湯。Dad: After dinner, we can lie in the hammocks and look at the stars!
爸爸：吃完晚餐後，我們就可以躺在吊床上享受星空囉！
campfire (n.) 營火
campfire 由 camp (露營) 和 fire (火) 組成，也就是「營火」；「營區」則是由 camp (露營) 和 site (地點) 組成。要注意 campfire 跟 campsite 都是一個字不要分開成兩個字。補充：「生火」的動詞可以用 build、start 和 make。
Everyone huddled around the campfire and listened to ghost stories.
大家圍坐在營火旁聽著鬼故事。
tinder (n.) 火種
講到 tinder 可別只想到交友軟體，tinder 原本的意思其實是「火種」或「引火物 (容易引起火苗的東西)」 ，是不可數名詞。不管是烤肉、登山或露營，有了火種都能讓生火更方便。點燃火種的英文可以用 light 這個字，注意其動詞三態是 light-lit-lit。
The wood and twigs were too wet, so he lit some tinder to start the fire.
因為木頭根樹枝都太溼了，所以他才點燃火種來生火。
tripod (n.) 三腳架
tripod 原本是指相機的「三腳架」，在前面加上 campfire 就是指營火用的三角架，用來架在營火上方以便野炊。
They hung the pot on the campfire tripod to boil the water.
他們將鍋子掛在營火三腳架上開始煮水。
Dutch oven (n.) 鑄鐵鍋
形容詞 Dutch 是「荷蘭的」，因此 Dutch oven 就是「荷蘭鍋」，也就我們所熟知的「鑄鐵鍋」，英文也稱之為 cast-iron pot 。之所以稱做荷蘭鍋是因為據說最早製造鑄鐵鍋的就是荷蘭人，後來這項技術才傳到其他國家。
Dutch ovens are perfect for stews.
鑄鐵鍋很適合用來燉東西。
