要引用別人說的話時
「說」永遠都只會用 “say” 嗎？
其實不是只有 say 這個動詞可以用
快把各種「說」的英文學起來吧！
「說」在很多不同情況下，其實都有更加明確的說法，不是只有單純的誰說了什麼話，有時候可能是帶有一些情感或是有些意義的，例如：他「指出」、他「提到」等。在英文中也有很多這類的動詞，我們稱為 “reporting verbs”，意指發表、陳述事情的動詞。
我們先來看語氣的強弱吧！

語氣較弱
suggest 建議、speculate 推測、allege 聲稱、guess 猜測、doubt 懷疑、confuse 困惑、infer 推論、hypothesize 假設、appraise 估量
suggest 建議、提議、指出
The doctor suggests that everyone should have breakfast every day.
醫生建議每個人每天都應該吃早餐。All the evidence suggests that the sneaky man stole the lady’s purse.
所有證據都指出那鬼鬼祟祟的男人偷了這位女士的錢包。
speculate 推測、推斷 、猜測
近義詞：imply/infer/assume
She speculates on/about the strange guy’s motivation.
她猜測那個奇怪男人的動機。
allege 斷言、宣稱
注意：allege 所說的「聲稱」比較有狡辯的感覺，是在沒有證據的情況下所做的聲稱
She alleged that she was late because the bus was not on time.
她聲稱自己會議之所以遲到，是因為公車不準時。
語氣較客觀中立
describe 敘述、mention 提到、refer 提及、point out 指出、indicate 指出、show 顯示、assume 認為、declare 宣告、consider 認為、believe 相信、comment 評論、illustrate 用圖說明、explain 解釋、agree 同意、announce 宣布、conclude 結論
describe 描述、形容
The witness described in detail how this car accident happened.
這位目擊者詳細地描述這場車禍發生的經過。
report 報導、報告、記述
report + that + 子句 / Ving
The manager reported that his team had finished the project.
經理報告說他的團隊已經完成了這個計畫。
note 提到、提出
近義詞：state/indicate
He noted the importance of this issue in his lecture.
他在課堂中提到此議題的重要性。
declare 宣布、宣告
近義詞：announce
The minister declared that the new policy will be executed in one month.
這名官員宣布這個新政策將於一個月後執行。
comment 評論
This aggressive man comments on/about every social issue in a negative way.
這名激進男子總是對每個社會議題發表負面評論。
語氣較強烈
argue 爭論、emphasize 強調、stress 強調、warn 警告、insist 堅持、recommend 建議、blame 責備、criticize 批評、praise 稱讚、maintain 主張、deny 否認、object 反對

The student argued that his professor’s interpretation of this article was wrong.
這個學生認為他的教授對這篇文章的解讀是錯誤的。
emphasize 強調、著重
近義詞：stress
Our team leader emphasizes that every member on this team is essential.
我們的團隊領導人強調每個團隊成員都很重要。
assert 斷言、聲稱：確定的說某事情是真的
The young woman asserts her innocence.
The young woman keeps asserting that she is innocent.
這年輕的女人堅稱她的清白。
insist 堅持
The accused insisted on seeing her lawyer.
這名被告堅持要見他的律師。
criticize 批評
The professor criticizes that the new education policy is not good for students.
這個教授認為新的教育政策是對學生不利的。
maintain 堅持、主張
The old man maintains that he saw a UFO yesterday.
這個老人堅稱他昨天看到幽浮。

applaud/praise/blame/criticize
All of his teachers applauded him for his efforts to carry out the project.
他的老師對他執行這個計畫所付出的努力讚譽有加。The professor blamed her student for not doing enough work for the research.
教授批評她的學生不夠努力做研究。

The boss views the best services provided for customers as their top priority.
這位老闆將提供客人最好的服務視為他們的第一要務。My best friend defines her life enjoyment as traveling around the world.
我最好的朋友將人生的樂趣定義為到世界各地旅行。
