the,a,an在英文中稱作「冠詞」，

在英文裡有三種冠詞(article)分別為a, an, the，
三種冠詞又分為兩種，不定冠詞(indefinite article)─a,an與定冠詞(definite article)─the。
冠詞是置於名詞之前，對名詞有限制作用的一種虛詞。
冠詞可以說是名詞的一種標誌，它不能離開名詞而獨立存在。
● 最大略的觀念是：
a/an 為不定冠詞，用在非限定的名詞前。an用在母音字首的名詞前。
例如：
He is a student. 他是學生
He is an elementary school student. 他是一個小學生
他是一個學生，沒有限定是哪間學校、哪個班級的學生。
the 為定冠詞，用在限定的名詞前。
例如：
He is the student from class A. 他是A班的學生
這裡的他不僅是個學生，還特別是A班的學生，這就是一種限定用法。
接下來讓我們看看幾種冠詞的特定使用方法 🙂
● 大部分的國名前不加the
1. 大部分的國名前不使用冠詞
例如：
We live in Taiwan. 我們住在台灣(台灣之前不加the)
2. 如果一個國家是由不同州組成的聯邦，或由不同的小鄉村組合成的一個大州，會在其之前加上the
例如：
The U.S.A 美國，The U.K 英國
The U.K和England是不一樣的地方唷！
The U.K包含了英格蘭、蘇格蘭、威爾斯、北愛爾蘭以及一系列附屬島嶼，England是英格蘭
像The U.K這樣由聯邦組成的國家，前面就必須加上the；England則不加the
3. 當一個國家由一群島嶼組成時，會加上the
例如：
The Philippines 菲律賓
● breakfast, lunch, dinner前不加冠詞
1. 三餐breakfast, lunch, dinner前不加冠詞
例如：
I don’t eat breakfast. 我不吃早餐
Do you want to have lunch together? 你想要一起吃午餐嗎？
2. 若指特定的一餐，可以加上the
例如：
Did you enjoy the dinner last night? 你喜歡昨天的晚餐嗎？
● 職業前加上a/an
1. 職業前需要加上a/an
例如：
I want to be a teacher. 我想要當老師
She is an assistant. 她是一位助理
職業前加上a/an是一個概括的概念，想要當老師，不一定要當特定種類的老師
2. 如果指特定種類的職業，把a/an改成定冠詞the
例如：
I want to be the teacher kids love. 我想要當會受孩子喜愛的老師
這裡的老師是指定要「受孩子喜歡」的，而不是只要當上都師都好
● 專有名詞前不加冠詞
專有名詞像是語言、月份、星期、地名幾前都不會加上the或a/an
專有名詞就是在句子中都會大寫的名詞
例如：
Can you speak Chinese? 你會說中文嗎？
I was born in October. 我十月出生
Do you want to join the party on Friday? 你想要一起參加星期五的派對嗎？
Will you go back to Taipei next weekend? 你下個周末會回台北嗎？
● 世界上只有一個的事物前需要加上the
太陽、月亮、地球，這些東西在世界上都只有「一個」不會有第二個
這種唯一存在的名詞前要加上the
例如：
The sun rises in the east. 太陽從東邊升起
The moon is big and round today. 今天的月亮又大又圓
There are almost 7 billion people on the earth. 地球上有將近70億人口
● 不可數名詞前不會加the
1. 不可數名詞是英文中無法使用複數的名詞，像是rice, hair, bread。不可數名詞前面不會加the
例如：
Do you need more bread? 你需要更多麵包嗎？
I need to cut my hair because it is too long to annoy me. 我需要去剪頭髮，因為它太長造成我的困擾
2. 若指特定的不可數名詞，前面可加the
例如：
The rice tastes strange. 這飯吃起來怪怪的
I had the bread from PAPA bakery this afternoon. 我今天下午吃了PAPA麵包店的麵包
這裡的麵包指來自PAPA麵包店的特定麵包
● 形容詞的最高級前面要加the
最高級是由the+形容詞est或是the most形容詞組成，最高級一定要加the
例如：
Ben is the tallest student in my class. Ben是我們班上最高的學生
I think Taiwan is the most wonderful place of the world. 我認為台灣是世界上最棒的地方
