下課啦！Sofia 和 Bob 走在學校走廊，她開始抱怨起剛剛課堂上坐她隔壁的一位同學…
Sofia: Did you notice the person sitting next to me during the class? Do you know him?
Sofia：你有注意到剛剛課堂上坐我旁邊的人嗎？你認識他嗎？
Bob: I don’t know him. I think he must be from another course. Why do you ask?
Bob：我不認識誒，他是別門課的。為什麼問？
Sofia: Didn’t you notice how disgusting he was!? He was picking his nose right in the classroom! I’d have moved my seat if the classroom wasn’t full!
Sofia：你沒看到他有多噁！？他上課在挖鼻孔耶！要不是教室滿了不然我一定換座位！
Bob: Wow. He ate his booger?
Bob：哇哦，他有把鼻屎吃掉嗎？
Sofia: Bob!!! Do you guys have to be that disgusting?
Sofia：BOB！！！你們男生一定要那麼噁心嗎？
Bob: Hey! Not all men pick their noses in public—most of us do it in the bathroom!
Bob：嘿！不是所有男生都會當眾挖鼻孔，我們大多在廁所挖。
Sofia: Fine, fine!
Sofia：好啦，好啦！Bob: Speaking of which, you remind me of a girl from my English class last semester.
Bob：說到這個，你讓我想起上學期英文課的一個女生。
Sofia: What?
Sofia：怎麼了？
Bob: She constantly bit her nails and tapped her foot.
Bob：她總是在咬指甲還有抖腿。
Sofia: Doing both at a time?
Sofia：兩個同時做？
Bob: Yeah, so nobody liked to sit next to her.
Bob：對啊，所以沒有人喜歡坐她旁邊。
邊咬指甲邊抖腳很難耶。我們還是做簡單的事就好：跟著小 V 複習單字！

pick one’s nose 挖鼻孔
pick 在這裡的意思是「剔除；挖除」的意思，pick somebody’s nose 就是「挖鼻孔」 (挖鼻孔就等同把鼻屎「挖除」)。除此之外，pick 還有很多種意思，如「挑選；摘取」。
Gross! The driver was picking his nose while driving!
好噁心！那個駕駛邊開車邊挖鼻孔！The magician asked the woman to pick a card from the deck.
魔術師要求女子從一疊卡中挑出一張。
Alice picked an apple from the apple tree.
Alice 從蘋果樹上摘下一顆蘋果。
I’m going to the airport to pick up my sister.
我要去機場接我姐姐。
booger (n.) 鼻屎
booger 意指「鼻屎」。補充：snot 指「鼻涕」(亦可用來指「舉止討人厭的人」)。
My brother is the most disgusting person I’ve ever known. He would stick his boogers under his desk and also fling his snot at other people in class.
我弟是我認識過最噁心的人。他會把鼻屎黏在書桌底下，或是在課堂上用鼻涕攻擊人。
in public (phr.) 當眾
public 除了可以當形容詞「大眾的；公共的」，也可以當名詞「民眾；公眾」(寫做 the public，用來泛指「普羅大眾；老百姓」)。地方副詞片語 in public 則是指「當眾；在公開場所」。
I go to school by public transportation.
我仰賴大眾運輸通勤上學。
The public panicked in the wake of the epidemic outbreak.
疫情的爆發使大眾恐慌。
Tommy’s mom scolded him in public.
Tommy 的媽媽當眾指責他。
bite one’s nails 咬指甲
bite 意指「啃；咬」(注意其動詞三態為不規則變化：bite-bit-bitten)，nail 的意思則是「指甲」，bite one’s nails 即是「咬指甲」。
Tommy is in the habit biting his nails when he is nervous.
Tommy 緊張時習慣咬指甲。
tapping one’s foot 抖腳
抖腳這個動作可不要用 shake 這個字喔，否則用 shake one’s foot 看起來會是把整隻腳拿起來在空中甩 (笑)。正確的動詞應該搭配 tap，tap 有「(連續) 輕拍；輕觸」的意思。
The table kept rocking because she was tapping her foot.
她抖腳時桌子都在震。

Bob: I assume nose picking and nail biting are just nervous ticks.
Bob：我猜挖鼻孔和咬指甲不過只緊張的時候會出現的習慣。
Sofia: That’s possible. But those are bad habits. Although I also have some bad habits, they wouldn’t bother anybody.
Sofia：或許吧，但那些都是壞習慣。雖然我也有一些壞習慣，但都不會惹到任何人。
Bob: Like what?
Bob：例如什麼？
Sofia: I often sleep in or hit the snooze button again and again…
Sofia：我常常賴床或是一直按貪睡鬧鐘…
Bob: No wonder you’re usually late for class!
Bob：難怪你常常上課遲到！
Sofia: How about you? Don’t you have some bad habits?
Sofia：你呢？你就沒有壞習慣嗎？
Bob: Well… I tend to procrastinate.
Bob：呃…我常常拖延。
Sofia: Over what?
Sofia：哪種拖延？
Bob: You know, all sort of things, homework, doing dishes, doing laundry… homework…
Bob：你懂的，什麼都可以拖，作業啊、洗碗啊、洗衣服啊、作業啊…
Bob 有沒有意識到他說了兩次作業？我們可不行拖延學習單字喔！來複習吧！
sleep in (v.) 賴床
sleep 為動詞，表示「睡覺」(三態為不規則：sleep-slept-slept)，而 sleep in 則是指「賴床」。
My parents always sleep in on weekends.
我爸媽假日時總會賴床。
hit the snooze button 按貪睡鬧鐘
再睡五分鐘…再睡十分鐘…，snooze button 指的就是這時候按的「貪睡鬧鐘」。其中 snooze 指的是「打盹；小睡」，而 hit 則是「敲擊；按下」(注意 hit 三態同形)。
I hit the snooze button and the next time I woke up, an hour had already passed.
我按了貪睡鬧鐘，下次再醒來已是一小時後。
procrastinate (v.) 拖延
procrastinate 意指「拖延；延遲；耽擱」，其名詞形為 procrastination。
Tommy kept procrastinating instead of doing his homework. It was not until just before the deadline that he even started.
Tommy 一直拖他的作業，截止日快到了他才會開始。
小 V 最受不了的其實是隔壁的人一直轉筆 (flip/spin one’s pen)，筆還一直掉一直掉！壞習慣一定要改掉！
