你知道 「差點忘記」的英文怎麼說嗎？
到底要用 forget 還是 forgot？筆記本拿出來！

?Jennie is so stubborn that she won’t listen to you.
大家注意聽好了！ hear 跟 listen 都是「聽」的意思，那兩者到底有什麼差別？ hear 是通常是指「不經意地聽到」，是毫無準備的狀況下聽見的，但是 listen 則是主動地「集中注意、專心地聽」。「聽從」為主動行為，所以此狀況下要用 listen 才正確！
Don’t listen to him. You don’t look fat in that dress!
別聽他的，妳穿這件裙子並不胖。Captain: I can’t hear you!
Kids: Aye aye captain!
船長：太小聲囉，我聽不見！
小孩：是的，船長！Jill: Did you hear? Jennie is thinking of moving to Bogato.
Jill: 你有聽到嗎？Jennie 在考慮搬去波哥大。
Judy: I lived there for three years, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Maybe I should speak to her first.
Judy: 我在那住過三年，不建議搬去那。或許我應該先跟她聊聊。
Jill: I wouldn’t waste your time.
Jill: 是我的話我不會浪費時間。
Judy: Why?
Judy: 為什麼？
Jill: Jennie is so stubborn, she won’t listen to you, even if you do have first-hand experience of living there.
Jill: Jennie 很固執，她不會聽你的話的，即使你有在那住過的一首經驗也一樣。

?There is ________.
have 跟 has 在中文常常翻譯成「有」，例如：I have a question. (我有一個問題) ，此句話的 have 做一般動詞使用，但在表達「(這裡/那裡)存在有… 」的時候，則要用 There is/are… 的固定句型，另外如果要表示「這裡或那裡有…」可以在整句話最後加上地方副詞變成 There is/are…here/there. 。
I have a pen. I have an apple.
我有一支筆，我有一顆蘋果。There is a strange man singing as he holds a pen and an apple.
有一個奇怪的男人拿著一支筆和一顆蘋果在唱歌。Sam: Do you know where I can get my computer repaired?
Sam: 你知道哪裡可以修電腦嗎？
Tom: There is a specialist mall near here.
Tom: 這附近有個專門的商場。
Sam: Do you know how to get there?
Sam: 你知道怎麼去嗎？
Tom: There is a subway station right next to it, but it doesn’t take long to walk.
Tom: 旁邊就有個捷運站，但用走的也不會太遠。
Sam: It’s a nice day; let’s just walk.
Sam: 今天天氣很好，就用走的吧。
機會很大
?chances are big
?(The) chances are high that ________. / There is a good chance that ________.
中文裡我們說的「大」相對英文就是 big ，但是為什麼「機會很大」不是用 big 而是用 high (高) 呢？ chance 這個字除了有「機會」的意思，也可以翻作「可能性」，如果是可能性的話，那用 high 這個字來形容，聽起來就沒錯了吧！或是我們也可以說 There is a good chance that… 的句型表達同樣意思喔。
The chances are high that she likes you back. Just go over there and ask her out.
她也喜歡你的可能性很高，快過去約她出去。There is a good chance that Clark Kent and Superman are one and the same. There is no way they would have had the same haircut at the same time.
Clark Kent 就是超人的機會很大，他們怎麼可能同時剪同一個髮型。Celine: There’s a good chance we’re going to be stuck here because of the snowstorm …
Celine: 我們很有可能因為暴風選會被困在這…
Andy: What’s the earliest flight we can get if this one is cancelled?
Andy: 如果班機被取消的話最早的班機是哪班？
Celine: We’ll probably have to wait another two days.
Celine: 有可能要再等兩天。
Andy: This will give us a chance to go to that theme park.
Andy: 這樣我們就有機會可以去那個主題公園。
Celine: The chances are high that that will also be closed because of the weather. What about going to the history museum?
Celine: 因為天氣那裡也有可能會關閉。去歷史博物館如何？

差點忘記
?I almost forget.
?I almost forgot.
「差點忘記」是在說一件在過去差點發生的事情，但說話的當下已經想起來了，既然已經是過去，便要用過去式 forgot ，如果說 I almost (always) forget. 的話，則代表一件事情習慣性一直被忘記，看看以下例子就可以知道差別了。
I almost forgot Mel’s birthday yesterday. Can you imagine if I did forget? She would be so upset.
我昨天差點忘記 Mel 的生日了，你能想像如果我真的忘記了嗎？她一定會超難過。I almost always forget to write my name down when I take exams.
我每次考試的時候都會差點忘記要寫自己的名字在考卷上。Dave: I almost forgot Mother’s Day.
Dave: 我差點忘了母親節。
Steve: How come?
Steve: 怎麼會？
Dave: Because it’s on a different day in my country.
Dave: 因為在我的國家母親節是另外一天。
Steve: Ah I see. So you didn’t see all the Mother’s Day gifts in the shops to remind you?
Steve: 我懂了，所以你看到店裡那些母親節禮物沒有讓你想起來？
Dave: Exactly. Luckily my sister reminded me a couple of days before.
Dave: 沒錯，幸好我姊前幾天有提醒我。
把錢存進銀行
?I have to save the money in the bank.
?I have to deposit my money into my bank account. / I have to deposit my money in the bank.
save 的意思是「保存，儲存；儲蓄，存錢」，但 save money 的「存錢」是指「積蓄」的意思，也可以指「省錢」，但把錢存進銀行則是另外一回事，此時要用 deposit ，意指「(在銀行或保險箱中) 存放，儲存 (金錢)」，下次去銀行時不要再說錯了唷！
I’ve been saving money to buy a new car. That’s why I can’t go to that fancy restaurant with you.
我在存錢準備買新車，這就是為什麼我不能跟你一起去吃那家高級餐廳。You really should deposit your money in the bank. It’s dangerous for you to hold on to so much cash.
你應該要把你的錢存進銀行，你這樣拿著一大把的現金很危險。Tara: I just got paid in cash, so I need to go and deposit the money into my bank account before we get coffee.
Tara: 我剛剛拿到現金薪水了，所以去買咖啡之前我要先去銀行一趟把錢存起來。
Ringo: My brother refuses to deposit money in the bank. Ringo: 我哥都不把錢存在銀行。
Tara: Why is that?
Tara: 為什麼？
Ringo: He says he thinks the banks are trying to steal from him.
Ringo: 他說他覺得銀行會偷他錢。
Tara: Where does he keep his money then?
Tara: 那他的錢都存在哪？
Ringo: In a shoebox hidden under his bed.
Ringo: 在他床底下的一個鞋盒。
因為________，所以_________。
?Because (of) ________, so ________.
?Because (of) ________, ________. / ________, so ________.
中文可以說「因為… ，所以… 」，但在英文中， because 跟 so 不能在同一句話裡出現，這是因為 because 和 so 都是連接詞，有連接詞的子句稱「附屬子句」，而沒有連接詞的子句叫「主要子句」，附屬子句必然就是要成為主要子句的附屬，如果 because 跟 so 放在同一句話裡面，那就會有兩句附屬子句，而少了主要子句了，同樣道理，although (雖然) 和 but (但是) 也不能放在一起，記住囉！
Because of my allergy to green foods, I can’t eat any vegetables.
因為我對綠色食物的過敏症狀，我不能吃任何蔬菜。Jay: I was supposed to go abroad for my birthday, but I couldn’t because of the pandemic.
Jay: 我生日應該要出國玩的，但因為疫情的關係所以無法。
Chris: That’s a shame. Were you going to go with your friends?
Chris: 真可惜，你本來要跟朋友去的嗎？
Jay: Yeah. We still wanted to go somewhere though, so we decided to go on a camping trip here.
Jay: 是啊，我們原本還是想去哪走走，所以後來就決定去露營。
Chris: Nice, at least you still got a chance to escape the city.
Chris: 很棒，至少你們還有機會逃離城市的喧囂。
Jay: Yeah, it’s good to get out in nature every once in a while.
Jay: 是啊，偶爾去接觸大自然還不錯。Although I’m allergic to green foods, green candy is an exception.
雖然我對綠色食物過敏，但綠色的糖果是例外。

掛了/沒電了
?It’s die.
?It’s dead. / It died.
die 是非延續性動詞，所以如果表達某個生物已經死了，記得要用過去式 died，而 dead 則是形容詞，形容已經死亡的狀態。補充一下 one’s phone died 或 one’s phone is dead 都是指手機沒電了或手機已經壞了，很實用吧！
A: What happened to the goldfish that I gave you?
B: Well, it died the moment you left the house.
A: How about the turtle?
B: It’s dead, too.
A: 我給你的金魚怎麼了？
B: 呃…你一踏出門它就死了。
A: 那烏龜呢？
B: 它也死了。Can I borrow your phone to call my mom? My phone is dead.
我可以跟你借手機打給我媽嗎？我的手機沒電了。Sam: Can you send a message to Bonnie saying we’re on our way?
Sam: 你可以傳訊息跟 Bonnie 說我們在路上了嗎？
Michel: Is there something wrong with your phone?
Michel: 你的手機是不是有問題？
Sam: The battery is dead.
Sam: 電池壞了。
Michel: Can’t you use that charging bank I got you for your birthday?
Michel: 你就不能用你生日我送你的行動電源嗎？
Sam: Unfortunately that also died a few weeks ago.
Sam: 很不幸的是幾個星期前它也掛了。
