寫卡片、E-mail、傳訊息時總是會在最後說「祝…」，像是祝賀他人生日快樂、平安順利、身體健康，或是祝福他人有個美好的一天，這些再常見不過的話語，他的英文怎麼說呢？ 沒錯！hope, wish 這兩個字都有「希望、祝福」 (v.)、(n.) 的意思，但要小心他們用法可是不一樣的哦！

hope 希望
這裡的希望，指的是可以透過努力、學習，去完成、實現的願望，像是希望考試能考好、希望能在一年內存到5萬塊，我們會用 hope + (that) sth
I hope you will remember to bring me some souvenirs.
我希望你會記得幫我帶些紀念品回來。I hope that I can accomplish my goal by the end of the year.
我希望能在今年底達成我的目標。

wish 祝福、願望
wish 當祝福時的用法，其實很單純， wish sb. sth，祝福某人得到某物、完成某事，最常聽見的就是聖誕歌曲啦！We wish you all a merry Christmas. ，是不需要加介係詞、也不用加上 that 唷！那祝別人生日快樂你會說了嗎？是的，We wish you a happy birthday.
They wished me a pleasant journey.
他們祝我旅途愉快。

祝好運！(在這裡 wish 作名詞用)

除了祝福的意思之外，wish 當「願望」時該怎麼用就需要仔細看囉！還記得我們說 hope 是用在會實現、可能實現的願望嗎，而 wish 則是用在不會實現的願望、或是不容易成真的願望上，表達出「事與願違」的感覺。這種願望有分成與「現在事實」不符合的願望，或者是「過去已經發生的事情」，但不如你所望。
I wish I were a millionaire.
我真希望我是百萬富翁。I wish I had gone to bed earlier last night.
(希望) 我昨晚要是早點睡就好了。I wish I had passed the test.
(希望) 我要是能通過考試那就好了。
