但，它其實還有很多引申的特殊俚語和用法唷！

1. bookworm 書蟲、愛看書的人
例如：Eric is a bookworm. He loves to read the books. Eric是個書蟲，他喜歡閱讀。
2. hit the books 讀書
hit the books就等於study的意思，代表認真念書。
例如：I have a exam tomorrow, so I have to stay up late and hit the books tonight. 我明天有個考試，所以我今晚必須熬夜念書。
3. Don’t judge a book by its cover 勿以貌取人
judge是評斷的意思，Don’t judge a book by its cover白話之義就是「別用一本書的封面來評斷它」，是勿以貌取人的意思。
例如：Don’t judge a book by its cover. You can’t be so superficial. 勿以貌取人，你不可以這麼膚淺。
4. in someone’s good books 獲得某人肯定
例如：David did a good job on the presentation and win the contract. He is in the boss’s good books. David在報告中表現得很好，贏得了合約。老闆對他非常滿意。
5. by the book 按照規則
例如：He’s always careful to do things by the book. 他總是小心翼翼地照規矩辦事。
6. book (V.) 預約、預定
book當名詞是指書本，當動詞就有完全不一樣的意思。
例如：book the tickets 訂票、book the restaurant 訂餐廳
7. read someone like a book 輕易的看透某人
例如：You can always read Ted like a book. If he tells a lie, you can easily find it. Ted很容易被人看透，所以當他說謊時，你很容易就可以發現。
8. an open book 容易瞭解的人、事、物
和an open book 相反的是 a closed book，是讓人難接近的人、事、物。
例如：I have no secrets ; my life is an open book. 我沒有祕密，我的生活眾所周知。
例如：Allen is a closed book, he seldom talks to others. Allen是個難親近的人，他很少和人說話。
9. throw the book at someone 嚴厲懲罰
例如：The judge threw the book at that rapist. 法官重懲了那位強姦犯。
10. every trick in the book 使出渾身解數
例如：She used every trick in the book to pull off the deal. 她使出渾身解數來得到這筆生意。
11. the oldest trick in the book 老掉牙的伎倆
例如：Obviously, it was the oldest trick in the book. Stop believing in that guy. 這非常明顯是個老掉牙的伎倆，別再相信那個人了。
12. in my book 我的看法、我認為
in my book 和 in my opinion的意思是相同的，用在表達自己意見的時候。
例如：In my book, you shouldn’t do it. 我認為你不該這麼做。
13. cook the books 作假帳
「keep the books」是「記帳」的意思，這裡的book是帳本。
例如：The company cooked the books to evade taxes. 這家公司作假帳來逃漏稅。
